Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) on the one hand attempted to enable more than 30 mines and mining industries projects in the country, and on the other hand persuaded private sector to invest in the projects since two years ago.
Interview
Maintains that rapid technological changes suggest essential needs in mining and its associated industries, and ultimately lead us to acquire up-to-date knowledge in the exploration, extraction and processing fields.
Iran possesses one of the most important mineral reserves in the world and is considered among the leading countries in minerals such as copper, zinc, lead, iron, and aluminum. Currently, considering the new ambience and the green light shown by foreign companies to operate in Iran, a possibility exists for large-scale investment in this sector by foreign companies. In this regard, we spoke to Dr. Mehdi Karbassian of the Development and Renovation Organization of Iran
One of the advantages of Iran is the diversity of its minerals to such an extent that out of Mendeleev’s Table close to 70 minerals are available in the country. When the government carries out preliminary exploration studies, the risk level would reduce to less than 50% and the project could be transferred to real private sector. Dr. Mehdi Karbasian is a veteran state manager who took over the largest mining holding of the public sector – Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) - in September 2013. Dr. Karbasian was assigned to run IMIDRO at a time when repeated appointments and dismissals of managers at the organization and transfer of its subsidiary companies to the Social Securities Organization had raised many questions about its performance and effectiveness.
